Handheld Scanner Software and Other Cost Savers When Moving Your Warehouse
October 8th 2019 15:00:00 PM
If you’re planning to move your warehouse in the foreseeable future, it’s a good time to review the way your business currently operates. Think of the move as a type of fresh start, no matter how long your company has been up and running. If there are areas where your company is already doing well with keeping costs down, then you’ll want to continue with them at the new location. Some improvements can be introduced before the move, such as introducing handheld scanner software, so your team will be familiar with them by the time you get to your new address.
Scanco has a number of solutions for your business that will help you save money and increase efficiency in your warehouse. Contact us online or call (330) 645-9959 to schedule an appointment with a Scanco Solutions Expert today to find out more about how we can help you.
Do You Want to Discover Cost-Saving Strategies When Moving to a New Warehouse?
Consider the following ways to save money when moving to a new warehouse location.
- Review the amount of packaging you use in your operation.
If your company is producing a lot of packing waste, it’s time to take a look at your processes and procedures to determine whether you can make them more efficient. Less packaging per item means there will be less waste thrown away. It also reduces the shipping weight of items being sent out to customers, resulting in cost savings for shipping and transportation. - Inspect the insulation in the new warehouse.
The cost of heating in the winter and air conditioning the warehouse in the summer to keep the interior climate comfortable for your staff is likely going to be a considerable expense, especially if you are moving to a larger facility. If the existing insulation isn’t sufficient to keep temperatures at a consistent and comfortable level year-round, consider replacing it before moving day. This is an extra expense; however, productivity will suffer if your staff is too cold or too warm to focus on their assigned tasks. Ensuring the insulation is at a proper level will also reduce energy costs over time.
- Install LED lighting at your new warehouse.
LED bulbs do require a greater investment at the outset, but they have a much longer lifespan than halogen bulbs. Once the LED bulbs are in place, they provide similar lighting to halogen bulbs, but take much less electricity to operate. You’ll notice a lowering of your utility costs, while still keeping your team members safe with adequate lighting as they go about their duties in the warehouse.
- Replace older equipment with updated versions.
You may already be using a handheld barcode scanner to gather data for tracking inventory and for warehouse management. If so, then you already know that handheld scanner software makes the work of counting and managing inventory much easier and more efficient than trying to take on this task manually.
Barcode scanners can still do the job they were designed for; you also have the option of using mobile devices for this purpose. Your employees may find it easier and more convenient to use an app on their mobile phone for scanning barcodes, rather than carrying an extra piece of equipment (the scanner) through the warehouse.
