Using a Supply Chain Management System to Enhance Customer Satisfaction

January 16th 2020 16:00:00 PM

A supply chain management system can greatly enhance customer satisfaction. The Logistics Bureau states that 79% of companies with high-performing supply chains achieve growth above average; only 8% of companies with less-than average supply chains report strong growth. A good supply chain management system is the backbone of any manufacturing business

Three things happen when you have a strong supply chain management system in place:

  1. You gain tighter control over your inventory and are able to view both made goods and component goods quickly and easily. This ensures you can more accurately assess the time it takes to process and ship customer orders.
  2. Anything out of stock can be ordered promptly, ensuring you don’t over- or under- order goods. By having just the right amount in stock for the current demand, you won’t sink capital into materials that aren’t going to be used to ship orders.
  3. Strong supply chain management ensures the lowest possible prices for your customers. Price and time to delivery drive customer satisfaction. When you can shorten the time to deliver and lower prices, you’ll have a competitive advantage.

Many companies find their supply chains simply evolve over time. They don’t put a great deal of thought into developing their supply chains but allow them to grow organically.

Certainly, this is a natural outgrowth of a new and evolving business which must respond dynamically to market forces. At some point, though, planning supply chain management becomes imperative. The supply chain can account for up to 90% of a business’ costs. With such a hefty amount sunk into one part of the company, it pays to manage it wisely.
