Your Supply Chain Management System Can Help Compensate for Talent Shortage

January 14th 2020 16:00:00 PM

It’s no secret the warehouse industry has been experiencing a significant talent shortage. At the same time e-commerce sales are booming, it’s proving challenging for companies in the industry to attract and retain talent. Are you facing the problem of trying to do more with fewer employees? Is the lack of talent holding back your plans for expansion? This is the time to work with technology, such as your supply chain management system, to help fill in the gaps left by the worker shortage.

Are you already on board with the idea of using technology to increase efficiency and minimize waste in your business? Take the next step now and contact us online or call (330) 645-9959 to schedule an appointment with a Scanco Solutions Expert.

E-Commerce Sales Increase 5% in Q3 2019

The following figures were obtained from the Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce:

  • Estimated US retail e-commerce sales for Q3 of 2019 were $154.5 billion (adjusted for seasonal variation, not for price changes). This figure was 5% higher than the sales figure for Q2 of 2019.
  • Total retail sales for Q3 2019 were an estimated $1,380.5 billion. They had increased slightly (1.4%) from Q2 2019.
  • Estimated Q3 2019 e-commerce jumped by 16.9% from the same period in 2018. Total retail sales increased by 4% during the same period.
  • E-commerce sales in Q3 of 2019 made up 11.2% of total sales.

We know consumers have embraced the idea of online shopping in a big way and that trend is likely to continue growing. At the same time, the labor issues in the warehouse industry don’t show a lot of promise for a fast resolution. The solution is to use technology to help your entire warehouse work smarter.

Accuracy, Productivity, Customer Satisfaction: Three Keys to Success

No matter what kinds of issues you are experiencing with staffing, you can’t let any of these three keys to success get away from you. If accuracy starts to slip or productivity goes down, you will end up paying for it down the line when customer satisfaction rates dip.

Your customers may not come right out and tell you they aren’t happy. Most of them won’t bother to tell you directly. Most dissatisfied consumers just go elsewhere without giving a company a chance to address the issue. Unfortunately, they also tend to tell their family members, friends, coworkers and people they “know” on social media about what went wrong. This is a “sticky situation of the month” you definitely don’t want to be involved in at all.

Rather than constantly pushing existing employees to do more, give them the technological tools they need to become more efficient. They will be able to do their work in a more organized way in less time. Tracking inventory and filling orders will be much easier to manage.
